Le Musée D’Orsay et Le Bateau Mouche

Jan 18, 2014

Today we had two excursions planned by API: the first one was a Bateau Mouche ride on the river Seine, and the second was a guided tour of le Musée D’Orsay (Orsay Museum).

When we arrived for our ride on the Bateau Mouche, we found out that API had messed up planning the trip so we couldn't get on the boat at the time we were scheduled for. But it wasn't a big deal because API bought us all tickets that were good for whenever, and our coordinator gave us a list of times the boat leaves so we could go back whenever we wanted.

To make up for the planning error and to kill time until our tour of the museum, our API coordinator took us out to lunch at a local crêperie and paid for our meals. I got a crêpe filled with bananas and chocolate and topped with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream -- it was really good.

Once we finished lunch it was time for our tour of the museum so we headed over to le Musée D’Orsay. The museum was really nice and had a lot of cool and interesting art, but unfortunately for some reason the museum does not allow pictures to be taken inside -- I only managed to sneak a few. But besides that, the tour was really nice and I definitely plan to come back again to see more.

When the tour of the museum was finished, some of us decided to go have our ride on the Bateau Mouche while others decided to just return home. It got a little cold on the boat but it wasn't as bad as I thought a boat ride on a river would be in the winter. I got a lot of nice pictures of the area and of the Eiffel Tower though, so it was definitely worth it!

The boat ride only lasted about an hour. We remebered that the restaurant where we ate lunch had milk-shakes so some of us decided to go back there to get them, while others headed off home. I got a raspberry milk-shake. It was incredibly expensive, but it was the only restaurant I've seen that offers them -- milk-shakes are a very American thing and not common in France.

By the time we finished at the restaurant, it'd been a fairly long and busy day so I went back to my host family's apartment to relax.
