Moved to my Host Family's House

Jan 4, 2014

Okay, this will be a relatively short post. I'll probably make another post for today later when the day is over. If I don't, I'll definitely post it tomorrow.

Today we met at 9am in the Citadine's lobby for our "permanent housing orientation." I knew that there would another guy from UMass living with the same host family as me, but I also learned that there would be two Swedish girls living there as well.

We went over all the housing rules and legalities before we got split up: those going to live in apartments or the student dorms took a shuttle bus together; and those going to live with a host family got picked up at the hotel to take a taxi to their house. My host mother is in the Congo and won't be back for another day or two so her son Phinéas picked me up. He's going to be staying at the house with me and the other foreign students until my host mother gets back.

Phinéas showed me around the apartment and gave me a set of keys. I haven't met any of the other students living here yet, but I'll hopefully meet them later today -- I know I'll meet Nathan, the other UMass student, this afternoon at least.

The apartment is huge. All of us students have our own rooms. My room has a large closet and giant, comfy bed! There are two bathrooms so that's nice. Also there is a washer and a dryer! That may not seem like much, but we were told by API not to expect there to a dryer and maybe not even a washer. Most French apartments don't have dryers and they hang-dry their clothes. I'm happy I won't have to do that, haha.

There's a large common room where we can all gather and watch TV or chat. And the phone plan my host mother has allows for free international calls to the US so I can call home occassionally!

Here are some pictures of the apartment:
