Today was a really good day for a couple reasons: 1) today was the end of my intensive Diderot preparation course and 2) I got an email from an English teacher at a French middle school (collège) about helping teach their English class Tuesday mornings!
For our last day of our "stage intensif, " my class just had an afternoon field trip to le Palais Académique en Sorbonne. The Sorbonne is a huge, beautiful building that houses 4 University of Paris campuses. We didn't explore the entire building, but we had a guided tour of a lot of it. The tour lasted around 1 and a half to two hours -- and that was the end of the stage intensif!
After the tour was over, some of us decided to check out Gilbert Jospeh, a book store chain that API told us about, that was in the area. It was absolutely huge! It was 6 stories high. It was almost too big because it was a little difficult to navigate inside and find what you're looking for. But luckily, they have sales representatives who specialize in different genres/types of books so getting help is pretty easy. I decided to be adventurous and I bought the French versions of Ovid's Metamorphoses and Virgil's Aeneid. My goal is to, hopefully, have finished reading them by the end of the semester. Let's see if I can do it. I think I can!
After our trip to the book store, Nathan and I returned to our host mom's apartment. I checked my email and saw that I had an email from an English teacher at a French middle school in the 20th arrondissement (in the eastern part of Paris). She wants me to help teach their English class every Tuesday morning! She wants me to meet her and the students this Tueday at 12:30. I'm really excited! I can't wait to start! It's going to be great.
I took some pictures on the tour of the Sorbonne so you can check them out.
